Chodesh Tishrei 5785

Woah, Tishrei was an incredible month! The yomim tovim came and went, but so much happened in between. We started off with a moving October 7th mitzvah fair that we ran for the community, where we encouraged schoolchildren to say Tehillim and give tzedakah for the soldiers and hostages. We had a beautiful challah bake for Vov Tishrei, Rebbetzin Chana’s Yartzeit.

For all meals on Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, we were hosted by the warm Melbourne community. Then Sukkos came, with all it’s exciting programs and community events.

On Chol Hamoed, Ohel Chana ran all the booths at the unity event in Luna Park (local amusement park) with the community. We had an OC Chol Hamoed biking trip at Point Nepean National Park with breathtaking views of the water on both sides. We had a Simchas Bais party bus, went sukkah hopping with our primary and high school students, and on Simchas Torah, we went on Tahalucha to different shuls around Melbourne.

We had such a beautiful and uplifting Tishrei. Veyaakov Halach L’darko. We must take all the inspiration from this month and use it to gain and grow during the year ahead!

Chodesh Elul 5784

Welcome to Ohel Chana Seminary, this first month of seminary was packed. We started with flying across the world, meeting everyone and adjusting to the time difference. The first Shabbos we had an incredible hike and meaningful Chabad Youth Shabbaton to talk about our goals for the coming year. (Chabad Youth is the division of shlichus in Melbourne that makes programs in and out of school for the Chabad children in the community.) This month we started our Friday mivtzoyim to the elderly, as well as our specific Chabad Youth jobs. We met the Beth Rivka (Chabad school here in Melbourne) girls and started relationships during our shabbos bnos programs and lunchtime visits. We had an incredible in-Shabbos planned by our very own peers followed by a spectacular י״ח אלול melava malka  program.

In class we delved into a variety of deep topics; Bitachon, who is G-d, and most importantly we talked a lot about the importance and meaning behind teshuvah. why we do teshuvah, who do we forgive and how everyone can be forgiven. One thought that resonated with me is that in Elul, Hashem meets us in the fields of ourselves, in our untamed and unsettled parts and tells us that even from there He is ready to forgive and love us. We must do our part, but Hashem is waiting with open arms. Looking forward to seeing what the future has to offer in Ohel Chana, Ksiva Vachasima Tova!
